MdM Museum of Modern Art and Fortress Museum
Museum of Modern Art in Salzburg Museums high above the rooftops of Salzburg’s Old Town: MDM Museum of Modern Art and the Fortress Museum. The Museum of Modern Art on top of Moenchsberg Mountain will immediately catch your eye on your first stroll through Salzburg. It probably boasts the most spectacular location of all of Salzburg’s museums– opposite to the mighty Hohensalzburg Castle. The motto of the museum is ‘the summit of modern art’. Works of art by artists such as Max Beckmann, Picasso or Seurat have been on display in an exhibition space of 3,000 square metres. The baroque Rupertinum also belongs to the MdM Museum of Modern Art. Marvel at supreme pieces of modern art in a building that served as a seminary for priests.
Fortress Museum at Hohensalzburg Castle
Hohensalzburg Fortress The Fortress Museum has an equally ‘elevated’ position among the museums in Salzburg. Find out more about the history of Hohensalzburg Castle in historic rooms high above the city of Mozart. Marvel at coins, weapons and armour from the Middle Ages. The Fortress Museum even boasts a fully equipped medieval castle kitchen.
