Salzburg State Theater Salzburg State Theater In 1967 Herbert von Karajan founded the Salzburg Easter Festival. The legendary conductor was responsible for the management of the musical festival until his death in 1989. Even today, the Salzburg Easter Festival has not lost any of its splendour.

International stars, politicians, celebrities and lovers of art return to Salzburg every year on the Saturday before Palm Sunday to watch the first performance of the current opera of the Salzburg Easter Festival. Exclusivity and art merge at the Great Festival Hall on this very Saturday. The world famous Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden orchestra performs fantastic symphonic concerts. In the course of the Salzburg Easter Festival the orchestra also performs as an opera orchestra, a very rare occasion for all lovers of classical music.

There is plenty of time between operas and concerts to enjoy the unique spring ambience of Salzburg.
