Salzburg Easter Festival
Experience classical music in Salzburg in springtime
Blue sky, lush greenery, three concerts, one opera: internationally renowned musicians and the awakening of spring in the Austrian Alps make the Salzburg Easter Festival a unique experience.
In 1967 Herbert von Karajan founded the Salzburg Easter Festival. The legendary conductor was responsible for the management of the musical festival until his death in 1989. Even today, the Salzburg Easter Festival has not lost any of its splendour.
Salzburg Easter Festival – stars on stage, stars in the audience
International stars, politicians, celebrities and lovers of art return to Salzburg every year on the Saturday before Palm Sunday to watch the first performance of the current opera of the Salzburg Easter Festival. Exclusivity and art merge at the Great Festival Hall on this very Saturday. The world famous Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden orchestra performs fantastic symphonic concerts. In the course of the Salzburg Easter Festival the orchestra also performs as an opera orchestra, a very rare occasion for all lovers of classical music.
A musical highlight at Easter
There is plenty of time between operas and concerts to enjoy the unique spring ambience of Salzburg. At Easter the city of Mozart puts on one of its most beautiful displays: the mountains are clad in lush green, the emerald River Salzach sparkles in the sunlight and the outdoor cafés invite you to bathe in the warmth of spring. Why not rent a bicycle and explore the city of Mozart on two wheels? Rental bicycles are available in Mozartplatz Square only a stone’s throw from your Salzburg hotel.
