History of the Hotel Kasererbraeu in Salzburg’s Old Town
A tradition of cordial hospitality since 1342
In the late Middle Ages the Hotel Kasererbraeu of today served as a monastery guesthouse. The Giebisch Family continues the tradition of hospitality at the 4-star hotel in Salzburg’s Old Town in Austria.
The history of your holiday residence starts with the Roman Empire. A Roman temple dedicated to the gods Asclepios, Hygieia and Kybele once stood where the Hotel Kasererbraeu is located today. The remnants of the Roman walls can still be seen in the ‘Roemersaal’ theatre of the Mozartkino Cinema.
The origins of the building at 33 Kaigasse Alley dates back to the late Middle Ages. At this time only a few thousand people inhabited the city of Salzburg. The building housing the Hotel Kasererbraeu was first mentioned in official documents in 1342. At this time it served as a monastery guesthouse. In 1526 the ecclesiastic guesthouse was converted into the very mundane ‘White Lion Wine Tavern’.
