Advent singing is a unique genre, brought into being by singer and musician Tobi Reiser in 1946. The Advent Festival found its world-famous stage when the big festival house (Großes Festspielhaus) opened.
150 singers, musicians, actors and little shepherds from Salzburg and the surrounding area make the Salzburg Advent Festival at the big festival house (Großes Festspielhaus) an unforgettable, impressive and poignant experience. Local children rub shoulders with great singers on the stage. Together, they manage to win over the hearts of everyone in the audience. Guests at the Altstadthotel Kasererbräu only have to walk for a few minutes to reach the big festival house (Großes Festspielhaus). You can find the programme for the 2015 Advent Festival here. The trip there will take you past delicious-smelling mulled wine stalls at the Christmas Market.
On the other side of the Salzach lies St Andrew’s Church, directly on “Mirabellplatz”. This holds its own advent singing event each year. The inside of this Gothic church boasts a magnificent ambience – perfect for atmospheric choral singing: music, songs and texts are performed by around 100 artists against a holy backdrop. Advent concerts are also held at the Baroque University church (Universitätskirche) at the “Grüner Markt”.
When you stay at the Kasererbräu during Advent, you won’t have any trouble getting into the Christmas spirit. You’ll find the most beautiful Christmas Market in the city within walking distance. As well as the biggest and best-known Christmas Market on “Domplatz” and “Residenzplatz”, there are plenty of smaller, romantic markets off the beaten tourist track. The staff at the Hotel Kasererbräu will be happy to help you find your way. Whether you want to experience Salzburg’s Christmas markets, the Advent Festival at the “Großes Festspielhaus” Theatre or choral performances at St Andrew’s Church – at the Kasererbräu, you’re in the heart of wintry Salzburg.
