In a room of the present Old Town Hotel

In 1918, the Mozart Cinema was incorporated into the Kasererbräu's operations.

In 1905, in a room of today’s Altstadthotel Kasererbräu, around 230 Salzburgers looked on with fascination at the moving images presented to them by Georg Barth on his “original electric biograph”. In 1907, F.X. Fried with his giant cinematograph at the Kasererbräu.

Sissi premiere at the Mozart cinema

On 23.12.1950 the people of Salzburg could go to their Mozart cinema again

The newly built cinema has room for 540 visitors and is equipped with the latest technology. For the premiere of “Sissi” in 1956, Salzburgers flocked to the halls of the Mozart Cinema. Not just because of the film – but because of Romy Schneider, who appeared in person at the premiere of her film. She spent the night in  room 323  at the Altstadthotel Kasererbräu. The hand-painted bed in which she spent the night stands unchanged in the room down the hall. Even Luis Trenker did not miss the opportunity to be present in person at the premiere of his film on December 5, 1962 at the Mozartkino in Salzburg. In addition to Romy Schneider and Luis Trenker, many other stars took their seats in the Mozartkino and then spent the night in the Altstadthotel  Kasererbräu:

  • Maria Schell, she slept in room 324
  • Atilla Hörbiger
  • Joe Stöckl
  • Toni Sailer

… to mention just a few names.

A piece of ancient Rome in the Mozart cinema

At the time of the Roman advanced civilization, Salzburg was one of the most important settlements north of the Alps, not least because of its good geographical location on the edge of the massive mountain range.

At the Mozartkino,  in 1987, in the course of extensive renovation work, remains of historic Roman walls  were discovered, dating back to around 200 AC. this dated piece of wall is now located next to the canvas in the appropriately named “Römer Saal” Unique in the world in this respect, the Mozartkino is one of the most historic cinemas in the world in two respects.
