All around Salzburg, there are plenty of amazing places for day trips that you can reach in next to no time by car.
The Altstadthotel Kasererbräu is the perfect starting point for a range of excursions in the countryside outside Salzburg. The hotel’s car park is just a few metres away from the hotel’s entrance. You can hop in your car any time and explore the surrounding area.
A trip to Bad Ischl
Austria’s former Kaiser was well aware that the Salzkammergut region was a lovely little place to spend time. Together with his wife, Sissi, he spent many summers at the Kaiservilla in Bad Ischl. If you visit Bad Ischl, you’d be forgiven for thinking that the Donau monarchy was still there. A small footbridge will lead you over the Ischl to the Kaiserpark and towards the beautiful Kaiservilla. A tour of the Kaiservilla will give you interesting insights into the royal holiday home.
Lake Fuschlsee is around a 20-minute drive from the city of Salzburg. There are plenty of bathing beaches along the banks of the lake. Plunging into the crystal-clear water will provide welcome refreshment in the hot summer months, and your little ones will love splashing around! The same street that leads to Lake Fuschlsee carries on to Lake Wolfgangsee. As soon as you arrive, you’ll be greeted with a unique view of the lake – better than any postcard. From here, it’s not far to Lake Mondsee. All three lakes boast impressive water quality and glorious panoramas.
At Eisriesenwelt Cave in Werfen, it’s winter the whole year round. The cave’s temperature is an average of 0 degrees Celsius. With a 42 kilometre long cave system, it’s Europe’s largest ice cave.
